I actually don’t really like: The biggest monument in Leipzig. The monument for “the battle of the nations”. In 1813, Oct 16th-19th happened here the biggest battle in history until that day. It was the battle of decision against Napoleon. Soldiers from Russia, Sweden, Prussia and Austria fought against Napoleon and won. 600.000 soldiers were involved, 92.000 of them died.
It’s unbelievable how much Leipzig and the surrounding villages were changed after that disaster. Therefor it isn’t surprising how honest the guardian figures at the monument look. It was built 100 years later as imperial Germany under Wilhelm II tried always to show that it is important: very pompous.
But for me today was just a warm summer evening. I thank God for every day in peace and hope at least sometimes I can appreciate it enough.
